Adaptive Management Training for MACDI ‘s staff in Hanoi
On July 1, 2025, Mr. Jacob and Ms. Sabita from Oxfam Denmark successfully conducted an engaging and insightful training course on adaptive management for leaders and all staff members of MACDI Viet Nam. This training was part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacity of the MACDI’s team, a grantee of the Education Out Loud initiative.
The session focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and tools to enhance flexibility, responsiveness, and learning in project management. Adaptive management is a dynamic approach that encourages continuous reflection and adjustment of strategies in response to changing circumstances and emerging evidence, which is essential for navigating the complex and often unpredictable contexts in which MACDI operates.
Key Principles of Adaptive Management
-
Continuous Learning and Reflection: Adaptive management emphasizes ongoing learning from implementation experiences. Teams are encouraged to regularly reflect on what is working, what isn’t, and why, fostering a culture of openness and curiosity.
-
Flexibility and Responsiveness: Rather than rigidly following predefined plans, adaptive management supports making timely adjustments to strategies and actions based on new information, risks, or opportunities.
-
Evidence-Based Decision Making: Decisions are grounded in data, monitoring results, and stakeholder feedback, ensuring that adaptations are informed and purposeful.
-
Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging diverse stakeholders—including beneficiaries, partners, and local actors—is critical for gaining insights, validating assumptions, and co-creating solutions.
-
Risk Management: Adaptive management involves identifying, assessing, and responding proactively to risks and uncertainties throughout the project cycle.
-
Iterative Planning and Implementation: Planning is treated as a cyclical process where strategies are revisited and revised regularly, allowing the project team to evolve in alignment with contextual realities.
The training session not only deepened the MACDI team’s understanding of adaptive management but also strengthened our practical skills to apply these principles in our daily work. This capacity building is expected to enhance MACDI’s effectiveness in monitoring and supporting inclusive education initiatives for children with disabilities in Vietnam.
